The Attendance Office is open from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. We are here to help you with absences, contact information update, enrollment, check-outs, etc.

Attendance at school is extremely important. By state law, a student who has more than 3 unexcused absences is determined to be in violation of the truancy laws.

The following is a listing of the only reasons that are excusable:

  • Due to his or her illness
  • Due to quarantine under the direction of a county or cit health officer
  • For the purpose of having medical, dental, optometric or chiropractic services rendered
  • For the purpose of attending the funeral services of a member of his or her immediate family
  • For the purpose of jury duty in the manner provided by law
  • Due to the illness or medical appointment during school hours of a child whom the pupil is the custodial parent
  • With Prior Principal Approval, for justifiable personal reasons including, but not limited to, appearance at court, attendance at a funeral service past the allowable day (s), observance of a holiday or ceremony of his / her religion, attendance at religious retreats or attendance at an employment conference when the pupil's absence has been requested in writing, prior to the absence, by the parent / guardian and approved by the principal.
  • With Prior Principal Approval, for the purpose of serving as a member of a precinct board for an election pursuant to Section 12302 of the Election Code.
  • Pupils who are members of religions that observe religious holidays that fall on school days may be excusable from school by making prior arrangements, as specified by the main school and with written parental / guardian request.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ABOVE REASONS ARE THE ONLY REASONS THAT WILL NOT TRIGGER A TRUANCY LETTER.

BELOW ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF UNEXCUSED ABSENCES:

Three or more of the following excuses will trigger Truancy letter:

  • Running errands for family
  • Vacations or trips
  • Unverified illness
  • Family emergency
  • Transportation problems
  • Inclement weather
  • Babysitting
  • Absent from class without school or parent / guardian permission
  • Absence uncleared for more than 10 school days due due diligence to obtain an explanation from the parent / guardian
  • Unexcused tardy for 30 minutes or more
  • No note from parent / guardian

Leaving School Early: 

Students upon arriving on campus will not leave school for any reason without permission. Students needing to leave early must be picked up by a parent / guardian / adult that is on the emergency card. Only those listed in the emergency card are able to pick up students from school and must present a picture ID every time . 

To Enroll a Student in Bancroft Middle School:

You will need the following items completed prior to registration: 
Last report card 
Parent / guardian picture ID 
Birth certificate 
Immunization records (must be up to date)
Address verification (Utility bill, Gas, Water, or Light only) in Parent's name. (You can not use telephone bill) 

PARENTS / GUARDIANS ARE REQUIRED TO REPORT TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE, IN WRITING, TO CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR CONTACT INFORMATION WITHIN 30 CALENDAR DAYS OF THE CHANGE. PROOF OF THIS CHANGE IS ALSO REQUIRED. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY BE CAUSE FOR FORFEITURE OF THE RIGHT TO A CONTINUING ENROLLMENT PERMIT. STUDENTS WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO THE SCHOOL OF RESIDENCE IF FALSE OR INACCURATE RESIDENCE INFORMATION IS DISCOVERED.

The attendance office is open and open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We are here to serve you with regards to absences, update of emergency information, registration, termination, etc.

Attendance to classes is extremely important. By state law, a student who has more than 3 unexcused absences is considered a violation of attendance laws. 
 The following list provides the only reasons for excused absence:

  • Illness or injury of the student
  • Quarantine
  • Medical, dental, ophthalmological or chiropractic services
  • Attendance at funeral of a member of the direct family, eg. mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, brother, sister, or any relative who lives in the same address as the student (one day if it is in the State, three days outside the State)
  • Obligation of jury
  • Illness or medical treatment of a child whose parental authority belongs to the student.

The Justifiable Personal Reasons for an absence are those that are presented in writing, by the parent, and are approved by the principal . The absences that fit in this category include, among others:

  • Active military service in combat zone (direct member of the family - maximum three days)
  • Court appearance or Funeral services attendance (days extension)
  • Attendance at a religious retreat (not to exceed four hours per semester)
  • Entertainment industry (no more than five days of consecutive absence or a maximum of five absences per school year)
  • Medical exclusion or exemption
  • Religious commemoration, cultural holiday, ceremony and historical secular.
  • Religious instruction (attending a minimum school day no more than four days per school month)
  • Suspension revoked through the appeals process
  • Participation in a nonprofit performing arts organization (maximum five per school year)
  • Pre-coordinated mental health services (Mental Health Day Treatment)
  • "Take Our Daughters and Daughters to School ® Day"

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE REASONS MENTIONED ABOVE ARE THE ONLY REASONS THAT WILL NOT CREATE A CHARTER OF UNJUSTIFIED ABSENCES.

BELOW IS THE LIST OF EXAMPLES OF NON-JUSTIFIED ABSENCES:

Three or more of these types of absences will make a letter of unexcused absences:

  • Do errands for the parent / guardian
  • Holidays or trips
  • Diseases without verification
  • Transportation problem
  • Cline inclemencies
  • Caring for younger children
  • Absence from class without school permission or parent / guardian
  • Absence without parent / guardian note

Leaving school 

early : Since students enter the school they can not leave for any reason without permission from the school. Students who need to leave early must be picked up by a parent / guardian / adult listed on the emergency card. Only those listed on the emergency card will be able to pass through the student and must present a photo identification every time they come for the student. 

To enroll a student at Bancroft Middle School:

You will need to submit the following documents prior to enrollment: 
Last report card 
Parent / guardian photo ID 
Birth certificate
Vaccination card (updated) 
Proof of address (gas, water or electricity bill only) in the name of the parent / guardian. (Phone bills are NOT accepted) 

PARENTS / GUARDIANS ARE REQUIRED TO REPORT IN WRITING TO THE ASSISTANCE OFFICE WHEN CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR CONTACT WITHIN 30 DAYS OF CHANGE. PROOF OF ADDRESS IS REQUIRED. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF SPACE ON THE SCHOOL AND THE STUDENT WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO HIS SCHOOL OF RESIDENCE IF THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IS FALSE OR INCORRECT.
