Bancroft Middle School has been an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 2017!

What is the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP)?

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is one of three Programmes offered by the International Baccalaureate Organization.  The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students aged 11 to 16 and helps students develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world.

What the MYP offers students

The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning.

The programme empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. The result is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

Global Contexts

MYP Global Contexts common ideas that students will explore in all of their classes. Students learn what it means to be internationally minded while being in a program that promotes multilingualism, intercultural understanding, and global engagement.

IB Subject Areas

Students are expected to develop a broad and balanced base of knowledge through the study of eight subjects,

Arts - Performing or Visual

Individuals and Societies – Social Studies

Language and Literature – English

Language Acquisition – Spanish, Mandarin

Mathematics

 Physical Education/Health -- PE or Dance

 Sciences

 Design -- Computer Science or Project Lead the Way

Community Projects

Through the Middle Years Programme Community Projects, students experience the responsibility of completing a significant piece of work over an extended period of time.

MYP projects encourage students to reflect on their learning and the outcomes of their work – key skills that prepare them for success in further study, the workplace and the community.

In their 8th grade year, students complete a community project.  The project provides an important opportunity for students to collaborate and pursue service learning.
